13,ooo LA Residents lose housing Every Month
5.5 million more are PAYING TOO MUCH
What if we are the solution, not the problem?
For more than 30 years, Los Angeles has produced too little housing for its low and moderate income residents. By one estimate we are now more than a million units short of what is needed for all who live here to be affordably housed.
Developers of market-rate housing are building for the top end of the market. The public sector doesn't even have enough money to house the rising numbers of homeless.
What if LA residents who can't afford a home are the solution? What if we helped each other earn more, save more and cooperatively finance the development of our own live-work communities? What if we could remake our built environment in a way that facilitates reaching our dreams, rather than preventing us from realizing them?
